Founding Partner & Director
STP Consultants Founding Partner, Trevor Slogrove has used his 20 year experience in structural engineering, project management and management of consulting engineering practices to guide STP Consultants since the company’s inception in 2005.
His experience in multi residential units has led to STP being the preferred consultant for the key developers of North Queensland. His practical perspective perfectly complements the STP client needs, and his ability to establish and maintain long term relationships with clients has provided STP with a strong and professional corporate culture.
Background & Experience
Trevor graduated with an honours degree from James Cook University in 1986 and took up a position in Cairns before returning to Townsville 4 years later where he gained invaluable experience in Civil Construction and Project Services. In 1992 Trevor formed his own practice, Progress Consultants, and soon expanded to offices in Cairns, Townsville and Ayr. In 2002 the BMD Group acquired Progress Consultants, and Trevor was appointed as Northern Australia Manager and National Business Development Manager of the BMD Group. 2002 was also the year Trevor graduated with an MBA degree.
Having planned and initiated his own developments, Trevor possesses an insight into the development process from the viewpoint of all stakeholders.
Registered as a National Professional Engineer, Trevor is also a current member and past local chairman of the Institution of Engineers Australia and is a member of the Urban Development Institute of Australia.

Stephen Tobias B.Eng (Hons), MIEAust, CPEng, NPER, RPEQ
Founding Partner & Director Cairns
Stephen Tobias, STP Consultants’ Co-Founding partner, has managed the STP Cairns office since 2005. Since graduating with 1st class honours from Monash University in 1981, Stephen has an enviable record. Stephen’s innovative approach to situations has enhanced his reputation in all aspects of engineering including multi-residential, commercial and industrial with his sought after practical approach to constructability. His ability to provide effective solutions for “out of the ordinary” engineering problems has been recognised by developers and contractors alike.
Background & Experience
After graduation, Stephen’s talent evolved as a Graduate Civil Engineer for Comalco Ltd, before moving on to Colefax Clayton Smith in Cairns, where he progressed from Design Engineer to Senior Engineer and on to Associate Partner. In 1992 he became a Director of Progress Consultants, where his reputation for cost effective designs and quality documentation was identified by all key developers in North Queensland. After BMD acquired Progress Consultants, Stephen was appointed as Manager of the Cairns BMD office. Stephen is registered with the National Professional Engineers and has been a Member of the Institution of Engineers, Australia since 1989 and a Registered Professional Engineer, Queensland since 1991.

Anthony Florence B. Eng, MIEAust, RPEQ
Founding Partner & Structural Manager Townsville
Partner, Anthony Florence is STP Consultants Structural Engineering Manager in Townsville. With a respected record of practical experience and achievement, Anthony oversees structural engineering services from his Townsville base. In a career spanning 15 years, Anthony’s experience in residential dwellings, multi-level residential unit developments, commercial and industrial projects has been a significant factor in STP Consultants being recognised by the key developers of North Queensland.
Background & Experience
Anthony graduated from The University of Southern Queensland in 1990, and after gaining experience with engineering firms in Toowoomba and Townsville, Anthony joined Progress Consultants in 1995, where he further established himself as a practical and approachable structural engineer. In 2002, with the acquisition of Progress Consultants by the BMD Group, Anthony was responsible for the management of the BMD Townsville structural office. Following the Incorporation of STP Consultants in 2005, Anthony was appointed to his present position.
Anthony has been a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland since 1994, and is a Member of the Institute of Engineers Australia.

Brian Mayer BE (Hons), MIEAust, NPER, RPEQ
Partner and Structural Manager Mackay
With 9 years of experience in various fields of the construction industry, Brian has gained a broad knowledge in consulting structural engineering and related environs both in Australia and overseas. He has focused on continuously increasing his abilities to provide his clients the best economic solutions.
Brian’s key objectives are building sound relationships with clients, work colleagues and associates, ensuring reliable service and support. A core part of Brian’s work ethic includes adopting a flexible approach and openness to innovations to assure prompt adjustment to changes in legislation and industry reform.
Background & Experience
Brian joined STP Consultants in November 2005, bringing his significant structural design knowledge to the team. Brian has extensive knowledge in the structural design of concrete, steel, timber and masonry for residential, commercial & industrial structures.
Brian previously worked with Maunsell Australia in Brisbane where he was part of the design team that undertook the structural components of major infrastructure such as the Inner City Bypass in Brisbane before operating independently on the design of a range of residential, industrial & commercial projects.
After working with Maunsell, Brian worked for BMD Consulting in Brisbane on major projects such as Oxygen Apartments, Mint Apartments located in Townsville, Aquavista Apartments in Maroochydore, Harbour Lights Apartments in Cairns, as well as numerous residential and industrial structures.
Brian has recently worked overseas with Buro Happold in Bath where he was involved in several projects including being part of the design team for the $500M Portsmouth Base Hospital in Cosham. Brian was also involved in the Structural design of a multistory steel/concrete composite framed unit block in Bath.
In 2007, Brian continued to work overseas, joining the team at Maunsell in Edinburgh, where his main projects included the Structural design for 3/10 storey steel/concrete composite office blocks in Edinburgh.
