The first stage of the project consisted of the implementation of the Mackay Aquatic and Recreation Complex which facilitate aquatics, featuring a 50 metre pool, 25 metre pool and 15m program pool with associated reception and amenities buildings. The complex will also host other facilities, such as change rooms, a café, a multipurpose area and official room for events. The initial stage of the complex worked with a budget of around $20 million, whilst the proposed future works will be budgeted at $72 million in total. The project is expected to highly encourage a boost in tourism, community development and liveability for the region.
