This project involved the refurbishment and upgrade of the Acute Mental Health High Dependence Unit (HDU) and adjacent A Wing of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service. The THHS approved funding to redevelop the HDU and A wing of the Acute Mental Health Facility and a preferred option has been endorsed which will achieve optimal outcomes with available funding.
The design focuses on functional improvements of the HDU and A Wing. The concept report describes a refurbishment option that will enable the HDU to remain operational. A Wing will be refurbished as a decant unit to provide care for eight HDU consumers. This will enable a medium refurbishment of HDU and conversion of A Wing into a HDU Therapy unit. STP Consultants were engaged for the Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic and Fire Engineering services for the project.
